This photo exhibit is showing in my home town Rochester, NY. at the George Eastman House. I am torn between two thoughts – I must see this, it is magnificent real-life portraying photography and the other thought is: I can’t see this – it is too soul tearing.

Who are those people? What are they doing? Where did that happen? Nothing triggers fond memories like going through your old shoebox of photos! Weddings, vacations, reunions, birthdays and holidays, so many fun times and people you know and loved. But will your children, grandchildren, relatives and others recognize the people, places and things or will they just stare and wonder? Dating old photographs

There are many ways of dating old photos. Most can offer clues to narrow down the dates. Some are more accurate than others. By the late 1870’s America had gone through the devastation of the Civil War. Then America and the world went through a long depression, the Panic of 1873 that lasted until 1879.
